I was standing in the kitchen this morning making pancakes when I overheard the twins bickering.
"It's MY turn to help Gramma clean out the spouting!"
"No, it's MY turn. You helped her yesterday!!"
They don't realize there are grown men who would be GLAD to "let" them clean out their spouting! HA HA.
Last evening, Paul and Josh went about 45 minutes northwest of us to pick up some walnuts which they ran through the huller this morning.
Blake got that tractor he was working on back together again. He was working on it till bedtime last night. He thinks he has that truck he was working on running smoothly again, also.
From the sounds of it, the whole troop is gearing up to take the herd of cows to a pasture down the road. Generally, taking the cows out takes one guy on the four wheeler, but we like to have a couple extra people involved when taking them to the pastures they're going to today.

Blake and Logan (and some of the others as well) laid the floor of the big bus yesterday. Now they get the fun job of deciding how to design the interior. It is surprising how swiftly certain children I know can get their schoolwork done when there's a big bus out in the driveway to work on!
Paul and I will be dressing chickens today, and Daniel will be working at organizing freezers and such.
Someone came by lately and wanted Blake to fix a Deutz tractor for him. It is hanging in pieces out in the shop right now (next to, I might add, another tractor also in pieces....). Funny how we all trust him to put these things back together again. To think he got his start in life by taking apart everything he could get his hands on just to see how it worked! Yes, his education has been costly but worth it!! He has a pickup of a friend here to work on, too.

Saturday musings
Yesterday, I took Maria and Shannah (and Clark!) shopping in the "big city". Let's just say, we've seen all the side streets that people who know where they're going never see! I also made an observation: I'm much too post-partumly fatigued to go shopping in the big city at this stage of my life. Paul is going with us next time!
We came home to a couple of blue-handed boys. Audrey took up playdoh making in our absence and it is readily apparent exactly who helped her.
It looks like the cattle trailer almost got a new floor while we were gone as well. Believe me, it needed one! Nothing like seeing chunks of floor disappearing down the road with a load of cows on board. (Ask me how I know??) They say the new boards need only to be bolted down and the sides put back on.
Looks like a lovely fall day~!

All in a day's work
Well, we're about half way through our annual black walnut harvest. That is, we operate a hulling station for the Hammons Company of Stockton , Missouri. People come in and out all day with pickups, car trunks, horse/wagons, etc loaded with black walnuts that we run through the old yellow huller. Blake, Daniel, Paul, and Logan get this job. I joked with them that whoever has the blackest hands at the end of the season wins the prize for having done the most!! With the ads we've run in the paper for this, our phone rings somewhere around 20 times a day.
Paul and I dressed about 80 chickens today. Brady, Brock and Garth always help clean up and they do a pretty good job of it.
Audrey, Maria, and Shannah were in the house all the while baking bread and making lunch. Shannah recruited help from her brothers to churn up a batch of home made ice cream.
Baby Clark is now 8 weeks old. He is such a little sweetie! He is such a patient little guy and rarely ever cries.
Blake and Daniel spent the day on Tuesday hauling beef cattle to the butcher. Yesterday, Daniel took Logan and Maria with him to pick up walnuts out of the yard of some area folks. They came home with 960#. At .12 @ pound, that's not bad for an afternoon's work.
Friend Josh from VT is coming next week to help with the bus. The bus has been somewhat neglected in the past several weeks as we try to clear away several other projects, but hopefully they'll make some progress with Josh's help.
