I was thinking about reality t.v. today.
Sometimes people will say something like, "Boy, you guys should be on t.v."
To this I say: NO THANK YOU.
Not that I actually watch reality t.v. (or, really, any t.v. for that matter....), but I've heard lots about it. Big family gets a t.v. show and thousands (millions?) of people watch it.....and then *everyone* adds their two cents.
Nope. I'm fine just living my life behind the scenes, thank you.
If my oven door handle falls off, I'm glad not to have to explain it to the rest of the world. If my laundry doesn't get done for a few days, it's enough to have 14 people complaining about it instead of 14,000 people discussing it online. So a couple of my children might have mismatched socks occasionally. What's it to ya?
Anyhow, who would want to squander perfectly good time watching three of us tag team picking and canning tomatoes? Like today. I was slurping tomatoes out of their skins----again----and putting them into jar after jar after jar. Totally not an event worth televising. B-o-r-i-n-g.
As I was doing this between times of comforting a teething baby, Paul comes to the house looking for someone (anyone???!!) to go with him to haul beef cattle (to the farm we're renting 30 miles away). The boys had their cousin Travis over today, so we hated to send any of them and spoil their fun.
Soooooo....we rounded up some car seats and threw them into the truck and I went with Paul.....and so did Clay, Clark and Trevor.
I looked plaintively at Shannah as I was walking out the door. "Could you please can these 7 jars of tomatoes I got ready and get 4 more ready for the next batch?"
She consented. What a dear. She also mixed up ice cream to try in our "new" ice cream freezer (recipe review forthcoming...I hope).
The cows are delivered and the guys are out loading up the next load. I have no idea if I am about to leave to help take them or not. This is life on the farm: unpredictable and sometimes crazy.
An exciting thing happened to me today! I got a Lehman's Hardware catalog in the mail with a personal letter AND a $100 gift card. I had suggested a product for them to carry----and they picked it!!! (Bummis cloth diapers on page 59). Wow!! I think I told them about that about 2 years ago or so!! Yay, now people will have a good place to buy cloth diapers. Our local sources are pretty slim pickings when it comes to products like that. So many people seem to prefer disposables these days.
Well, I need to get some other things done. Like sit Miles and Clark down for phonics lessons. Oh joy. I'm sure they will be **delighted** at the prospect....
