The Rain, The Park & Other Things

Looks like there may be rain looming on the horizon. We would surely welcome this, but in case it doesn't we are gearing up to water the fruit trees this afternoon.

I went to grab the very long length of hose I had cobbled together earlier in the spring to drag back to the garden, but Garth and Brady had it strung out to where they were working at taking the engine out of one of the chicken buses. As this was their standby in case of fire from sparks from the torch, I decided to let them have it.

This necessitated me running to the hardware to buy a Y for the hydrant so I could connect another hose. I am now back from that and the baby is sleepy, so I am next to him as he drifts off to sleep. He seems to not realize he is 13 months old because he still nurses really often!

Earlier, Maria went babysitting. Shannah and Audrey made lunch---well, that is after they filled orders and stopped a few times to load up orders for people who came for them.

As I said, Garth and Brady are taking out the bus engine. Originally we took advantage of the self propelling feature of turning a school bus into a chicken coop. We used to drive them to different fields, but it got to be such a bother to deal with dead batteries and upkeep on engines that seldom run, so we resorted to just towing them with a tractor. Anyhow, a non running engine might just as well be taken to the scrap yard and turned into cash.

Paul has been working on fixing the manure spreader. Someone messed up on the most recent unload job and so it has been out of commission.

I mowed around the trees in the orchard/garden earlier today. I enjoy that job. The boys continue to think it is futile to try to make the garden more of a unique and beautiful space. Maybe it is futile, but I find myself *wanting* to work out there if it isn't all full of pesky weeds.

I walked over to one of the boxes that I planted with gladiolas and daisies from seed. The glads have been up for a while, but I have been nursing the daisies to life by carefully pulling all the little weeds that have been coming up with the wee bitty plants. Today I went to have a look at how they are coming along only to notice that out of the 20 or 30 little daisy plants that were growing there, there are only about 10 left!

Here Audrey came along late last week and cleaned up that box, quite not realizing that those were FLOWERS growing there and not weeds! Opps...
