Miles was given the job of feeding this little calf since the mother couldn't. He was having a hard time getting it to keep still, so I came in to offer some pointers. We pinned it against the wall so it would quit moving long enough to figure out that it actually would like the stuff in the bottle. This little calf was a feisty little thing. I couldn't hold it by myself and keep the bottle in its mouth, so Miles lends his assistance.....he looks bored, but by then the calf had pretty much stopped fighting me.
It took a little while and lots of calf slobber, but it finally got the hang of it and started nursing with gusto. Paul doesn't like to cut the nipple hole bigger (which would make for faster feeding) because it is better for calves to have to work to suck (as in a natural situation).
There. Miles can finally hold the bottle for the willing calf. Paul's mom taught me how to bottle feed calves and she always said it's best to have them arch their necks like that.
