On Saturday Mom, Logan, Aud and I (Shan) drove up to Michigan (took around 6 hours) for a wedding.

On the way up one of the tires shredded...or something like that! We were stopped beside the highway for about 10-15 minutes while Logan put the spare on.

After this we had to drive for another 6 hours....we finally made it home around 3:30 this morning.

Let's take a few questions, shall we?

Q. What happens if a stomach bug hits the family? Who does the farm chores?
A. The family does. We triage. If you aren't in bed: out you go. Sounds sad and cold....but when it boils down to it, what are the options?

Q. What happens if the family is invited to a wedding in another state, six hours away?
A. Some can go. Others cannot. Cows don't milk or feed themselves.

Q. What happens when, say, a calf gets sick?
A. They convalesce in the farmhouse basement.

Q. Am I gathering it's been a challenging week on the farm?
A. Yes, but we've had weeks like this before and survived them.

Just a little note about this party.....What are they doing anyhow???

Once every summer and once every winter, these same girls get together to do something special. They were discussing it one Sunday after church not long ago. An older woman who was visiting suggested they could cut comfort squares to make kits to send to Christian Aid Ministries to help people with gifts of warm blankets. They thought it was a great idea, and hence....they had fun together helping other people.

Today I snapped a few pictures while making lunch...
