Drought

After hopefully studying the weather map all day and sitting on my front porch watching the neighbors' top soil blow by in great gusts, we got just enough rain to stop the dust from blowing around and the sidewalk is wet in places.

I'm telling ya, this drought thing is scary. *Somebody* must've gotten rain this evening, but it sure wasn't us.

Paul and I went out and bought a couple hundred $$$ worth of quick growing sorghum Sudan grass seed with the hopes of having it in the ground in time for this expected rain. We need something to feed these cows with. Garth is out planting it now.....but with no rain, it won't sprout.

So, the electric bill has now surpassed 4 digits for the month and will again next month. The winter hay is almost all gone. We have a tractor running full tilt (burning through $80 of fuel per day!) pumping water from the pond watering insignificant circles in the field in spite of the pond water level being down about a foot now....and it's no small pond.

Whoa. What a bummer post.
