We are finally finishing up first crop hay. It's been interesting.
The other night, the baby and I went along with Paul to haul the last load home from some rented acres about 30 miles from here. We had some concerns about the truck transmission, but we said a little prayer and God blessed us with a smooth ride in that regard.
Now, the tires on the other hand....We were buzzing through a sleepy little blink town 'long about midnight when BAM!! one of the trailer tires blew out. It sounded like a gunshot in the still of night. I noticed a number of people poking their heads out doors and coming out from around buildings. A quartet of young guys walked up offering their assistance. They said they'd helped another guy with a flat tire about an hour before. LOL.
Our problem was bigger than they could help with, though. We were quite impressed by their willingness to help a perfect stranger. We ended up calling Blake. Poor guy had just crawled into bed, but being ever the good son that he is, he crawled right back out and came to our aid. It actually took 2 trips to and from because things didn't quite work out with the spare tires we had on board.
Anyhow, we got home safely around 1AM. We ate a little something. Paul said something about assuming Logan and Maria made it home okay. Maria was supposed to go pick up Logan at yet another place where he was mowing hay about 20 miles away. I ran upstairs, like a mother, to check to make sure all my babies were accounted for. Oppps. Logan wasn't there afterall.
A quick check with Maria revealed that she didn't know she was supposed to go get Logan. Poor guy. Paul went after him by about 1:30AM and found him completely zonked on the tractor. It took a bit for Paul to wake him up and get him home.
Now today is Friday. Logan went back to bale the hay he mowed. Paul ran to get tires at Millersburg Tire. Maria is volunteering at MCC Thrift Shop.
Garth has been busy changing the trailer axles today. Clay and I had gone to pick up the new axles a few days ago. Several weeks ago Paul had been skirting a downed tree at one of our rented acres and hit a rut, instantly snapping the axle in a rut in the field.
Lots happening. The heat has returned. Yuck. I don't like that, but it is summertime....
