Mother said there'd be days like this

It's 2AM. Why, you may ask, am I sitting here at 2AM instead of being in bed sleeping?

Well, a short while ago Trevor woke up crying, "Mommy, Mommy!" as he dove into our bed and made himself at home. Since I was awake anyhow, I figured I'd go get myself a drink. In my absence, he sprawled out all sleepy-comfy and drifted merrily back to sleep.

Sure, son, have the space. I really didn't need it anyhow.

So, yeah, I could: 1. move him to the couch or 2. move myself to the couch. Either option works, though moving myself is easier on my back and has less chance of waking Clay....who is also occupying a large chunk of mattress real estate at the moment.

They do grow up...it's not just a rumor. I've come to KNOW this from personal experience. Too fast.

Hopefully tomorrow (today?) turns out at least a smidge better than yesterday. Paul comes walking to the house shaking his head telling me one of the boys (who will remain nameless here because it truly was an accident....) torched through a gear on the baler while trying to take the old roller off. He was trying to get the baler ready to make hay (today's job). A new gear is $300....and is sitting in Germany at the moment. It won't be here until next week sometime.

Then Paul went into the milkhouse after milking tonight (last night?) and discovered that the bottom of the tank had been open the whole time. Nothing like having all your work go down the drain!

Earlier in the day Trent had some difficulties with the tractor fuel lines. The day before that, another of our tractors threw a rod and broke a hole in the engine block. I supposed it's just as well it was *that* tractor with *that* problem because Garth had been saying for quite some time that it had an incredible amount of blow-by and he was surprised it was still running.....

There's also a little matter of certain people neglecting to test the fence for a charge on a regular basis. The same set of 5 steers keeps capitalizing on this bit of oversight.

The van just came off blocks (and hopefully now has brakes). The Kubota is likewise on all four tires (new ones) and sports new ball joints. Plus, the new Kubota window is ready to install.....don't ask.....I was told Clark barely touched it when it broke.

So..... I'd say it's easier when a back log of calamities don't all happen to strike the same week. God *is* the blessed controller of all things....surely.

It rained, though, and the grass is growing. That's *something*. One less worry...even if thoughts of your beef herd, moved out on the drought contingency plan, have you hoping like everything that fencers and miles of wire in other counties are doing their jobs. Let's just say one of our dear little, relocated calfies has a police record now. (<----who calls the cops when a calf gets out??? Apparently someone with little nostalgia for "the good old days" when cattle grazed the fields....and who decided it wasn't worth letting the land owner know about the situation first. Your tax dollars at work! And people wonder why little dilapidated, overgrown, abandoned farmettes dot the countryside.....it's tough to work with the neighbors sometimes.....).

Yawn. With such pleasantries on my mind, I think I'm going to wander off to find a pillow and blanket and go back to bed (couch?) now.....Oh wait. The dogs are barking.........
