Music to my ears

Know what I will miss most when my girls grow up and move away? Well, frankly, lots of things, but up toward the top of the list would be their daily piano concerts.

Ok, ok, calling them concerts might be a bit of a stretch, but I sure do enjoy hearing them play. This they do every.single.day. What's more, is they play with talent on the very piano I used to pound away tunelessly on as a child myself. I suppose it may qualify as an heirloom. The piano belonged to my grandmother and was given to me by my uncle.

I have zero music talent at all. My daughters generously suggest that I might've learned to play beautifully had I had lessons. I doubt it. They never had lessons either. They play by ear and later taught themselves to read music. For them, they play piano simply for the joy of playing piano. I don't know that any of them have any further aspirations in the music field. :)

Maybe I should look into music lessons for the boys so as to secure an endless stream of music for me to listen to through the years. (Is that selfish or what?) We have a couple guitars around the place, but so far they aren't showing as much interest in learning to play them as I would think people truly interested in the benefits of lessons would show. We will see where their interests and talents go, I guess. Somethings just have to develop on their own! As it stands now, I will at least be well stocked with vehicle maintenance men for the foreseeable future even if they don't play an instrument.

For now I just keep right on enjoying the rousing duets and the other things my girls end up playing in a day. Maybe all of my sons will wind up marrying pianists. Blake sure did! Christine plays beautifully with a defined polish that her actual training helped to cultivate.

I was reading the headlines earlier. Tornados through the midwest. How devastating for those who were in the paths of those! Believe me, it is pretty easy to count my blessings today! Hearing the girls play earlier reminded me how much we have. We might joke about the house looking like it got hit by a tornado sometimes when it gets messy, but it really is a bad comparison. I saw the pictures of Indiana, Kentucky, Alabama, and other storm damaged places. My heart goes out to those who have lost so much in the past week or two. Sure wonder if there's something we can do to help out in those places!
