Brrrrrr!
It sure has been winterishly cold here on the farm!
Paul's parents continue to enjoy sunny Florida. We had little sympathy when they called complaining they were chilly. 65 degrees?????? Come on! HA! We're glad they were spared the tornados that ripped through about an hour from where they're staying.
It seems the milk pump problems of last week have been remedied. Daniel and Paul spent the better part of a forenoon working on it and finally milked for the first time that day close to 1PM. Days like that are NOT fun.
The loader Paul fixed in the bitter cold yesterday is also holding its own (I think. I haven't heard this evening's report. He went out saying, "I hope that loader runs tonight". I don' t know, that sounded a little dubious to me.) He kept a space heater nearby to heat up the handles of his wrenches....and,no, he wasn't able to wear gloves. Brrrr. *
Paul is one of our church leaders right now, which means he is in charge of directing the order of the church service. This morning he had to call on someone else to take his place at the last minute as he dealt with frozen water lines to the barn and to the cows water. We did get there eventually but not until after Logan jump started the van with the pickup. Oh the joys of no garage.
Paul made a ghastly discovery this morning. As he was looking in the area above the milk house, he noticed an area of charred wood and a snapping hot electric wire. Friends, we could well have been very close to losing the barn! It is probably 150 years old or more, built of solid handhewn wood beams pegged together with wooden pegs. We are speculating that somehow the wire received an impact to split the insulation and the wire sparked enough to char the wood. It must've been damp enough from exposure to the elements that it didn't continue to burn. Thank God!
Blake continues to help our friend Steve out with his farm work. We miss him, but I think he's having a good time.

*I must report that both the loader AND the space heater (which could've aided in the loader starting) are not working this blustery evening. He's contemplating warming the battery with a heating pad.....

Happenings
We have about 2 inches of snow. Nearly every day we get yet another sprinkling of snow. Sledding and snowball fights are all the rage right now.
Blake has been away since Tuesday. A farmer friend of ours, South of here, had to have surgery so Blake went to help him with the chores. We are expecting Blake will be home by Tuesday of next week.
The bus obviously hasn't been worked on much lately since Blake isn't here, but you can see how much progress has been made. http://www.mci8.blogspot.com/
